Job Description
COMMUNITY SETTLEMENT ASSOCIATION
Interim Executive Director
Community Settlement Association (CSA) has served East Riverside residents since 1911 addressing family and educational needs of the community. It has a long standing credible record of supporting those in need and addressing contemporary issues that impact the neighborhoods it serves.
CSA seeks an action oriented, dynamic, community focused, business centered Director to manage its Center and staff who are committed to serving the community. CSA has supported generations of Eastside residents for one hundred years and seeks a Director to continue the tradition of excellence in leading agency operations.
The position is an exempt position reporting to Community Settlement Association's Board of Directors.
THE POSITION
This position is responsible for the overall operations and administration of the agency, including its staff, programs, financial management, marketing/fundraising, grants administration and strategic planning. The position supervises a staff of approximately fourteen involved in programs focused on health, family wellness, economic development and community and cultural heritage. The staff is also complemented by a dedicated group of volunteers who support Community Settlement programs and activities.
Supervisory responsibilities and Board support: Manages day to day operations of the Community Settlement Association and provides leadership and direction to staff. Works collaboratively with and serves as liaison to the Board of Directors in carrying out agency goals and objectives under their general direction and guidance.

• Public relations and grant writing/management experience

• Political savvy to work with local leaders to address agency needs

• Budget development and fiscal management experience
• Familiarity with human resource management, staff development and recognition programs
• Demonstrates clear evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of the Riverside Eastside Community
• Ability to inspire broad confidence and support within diverse groups
• Proven track record of decision quality
EXAMPLES OF RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE DIRECTOR POSITION:
1. Management of CSA programs, including performance management, community outreach and staff development and recognition.
2. Promotes and communicates the direction, goals, and objectives of the CSA to staff, community and all applicable stakeholders.
3. Provides technical assistance and guidance to employees; mentors staff and implements CSA's strategic planning objectives and strategies.
4. Implements and coordinates fundraising campaigns including an annual signature event.
5. Manages budget and submits monthly, quarterly and year-end reports to the Board on budget performance.
6. Provides support to the Board of Directors including recruitment and development of new Board members, presenting budget and activity reports, significant issue updates and general operations at Board meetings.
7. Provides an Annual CSA report highlighting program offerings, statistics related to services, accomplishments and progress in meeting annual goals.
8. Sets performance standards for all staff and provides regular feedback and annual performance evaluation feedback and makes decisions related to initial employment, promotion and discipline of staff. Provides coaching and mentoring for all staff.
9. Manages the CSA's business plan and generates monies and resources through grant efforts and other sources of support.
10. In partnership with the Board of Directors develops specific fundraising targets to be met on an annual basis.
11. Through continued study, participation in professional organizations, team working with community based organizations, keeps abreast of contemporary ideas, practices and trends relative to operations of non-profit organizations.
12. Participates in local and regional activities to promote the CSA to the community and region.
13. Maintains an awareness of the dynamics of cultural diversity and the socio-economic environment of the community and region.
14. Performs other related responsibilities as may be assigned.
EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is required. The degree should be in the field of business, social services or related.
EXPERIENCE: Five years of increasingly responsible management experience in business or corporate administration, public or non-profit experience, staffing, personnel relations, public relations, grants or fiscal management.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Valid California Driver's License.
KNOWLEDGE OF: Budget principles and practices; fundraising methods and techniques; grant writing programs and sources of support for program activities; Business and office management principles; policies and procedures applicable to community based and non-profit organizations; socio economic, cultural and diversity issues impacting the community; public relations and marketing methods to promote the agency; principles of strategic planning and goals and objectives development; methods of measuring program activity; methods of communicating effectively with executive boards, community leaders and representatives of local agencies; computer systems; legal requirement impacting non-profit and service organizations.
ABILITY TO : communicate effectively both orally and in writing; Analyze program activities, trends and provide relevant reports of agency activity; work effectively with the public and community and local government and non-profit leaders; develop, maintain and update agency policies and procedures; effectively deliver public presentations; develop budget, financial forecasts and strategic planning for the agency; track data related to program operations; develop staff development and staff recognition programs; foster and nurture effective relationships with an executive board; research, track and acquire funding opportunities for the agency; prioritize tasks and delegate as required; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
$ 45, 000 annual salary. Compensation commensurate with education and experience.
APPLICATION AND SELECTION PROCEDURE
The selection procedure shall consist of a screening of applications received. The most competitively qualified candidates shall be invited to an initial screening interview. The interview will be by a sub committee appointed by the Board of Directors which may include external subject matter experts. This committee shall interview and identify the leading candidates to be referred to the full Board of Directors for final selection consideration.
